06/21/01 - Titannica | 1,000,000
A few days ago, word came that Maynard has recorded a song with a fake band called Titannica, due to appear in the upcoming film "Run, Ronnie, Run." The song, called "Ass Kickin' Fat Kid," features Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and ex-Hole / Motley Crue drummer Samantha Maloney, and is now said to NOT be appearning on the soundtrack. You can just hear the MP3 machine cranking up

Various music sites are reporting that "Lateralus" has crossed the 1,000,000 copies sold mark this week (its fifth week out). The Billboard 200 chart shows the record at #9 (so far, it has gone #1 - #2 - #4 - #8 - #9), and notes that it has already earned the platinum certification, though the RIAA's online list does not show it yet. One way or another, it looks as though "Lateralus" has gotten to platinum very quickly, and hopefully will keep going strong.

TOOL is currently in England and happy to be playing shows. • For all of us who read 5/22's news and thought Canada's record market was aenemic, our instincts were right. That number should have been 51,000 (not 15,000). • Lateralus jumped into the top 10 in the following countries: Australia (#1), Norway (#2), Germany (#5; #1 on Alternative chart), Holland (#7), Sweden (#8), Austria (#9).

The band is in Chicago, playing at the Riviera tonight. Apparently the counterfeit tickets look very much like real ones, with passable watermarks and black-light testing, so be very careful whom you buy your tickets from.

The first show went great. The band is excited to be on the road. However, due to counterfeit tickets, the show was delayed for 2 hours. For anyone planning to attend an upcoming show, make sure your tickets come from a reputable source.

An article showed up on sonicnet and mtv.com featuring interviews with members of Tool, talking about how they might like to create a "The Wall" style movie in the future. Of "course, an article showed up in 1996 about them recording "Ænima" in eight days.

Two shows into Tool's first tour in ages, and the mayhem is already afoot. There was that whole bootleg-ticket thing at the Atlanta show, which luckily didn't happen again in Detroit. Maynard wrote in saying that it was really unfortunate, adding: "it was unavoidable. Someone stole blank Ticketmaster tickets and printed false information on them. It could have happened to anyone." A few people have been complaining that Tool brought it on their fans by playing too-small venues. A lot of fans have said that it is much better to see Tool in a more personal setting, but some agree that it is sadly becoming impractical for the band to play such smaller shows. Maynard also wrote in pointing out that Tool has not gone on tour in three years (!), and that if one's band hadn't gone out for that long, one might be concerned about getting familiar with the road again. "These new songs haven't been road tested yet. When we return from Europe the new songs will be fine tuned and more familiar. These shows are to blow the dust off, to re-acclimate to road life, and to dial in the new songs." Hey, the man has a point.

Lateralus is officially released today. TOOL will kick off their tour with a show in Atlanta tonight (we're sorry if you didn't get tickets for that or any other show, but please don't email us because there's nothing we at this website can do to help you get into a sold out show).
dissectional launches tonight...

The band is on its way to Atlanta today for their first show, tomorrow night at the Tabernacle. For anyone lucky enough to see this debut performance, tell us what you think of the show (thanks for writing in). • The Lateralus album is being played on radio stations across the country. The album is also available in some cities worldwide. • Adam finished the video for Schism this morning. • The new website dissectional launches tomorrow, and from advanced previews we can easily say it is arborescent, daedalian, and coruscating (hope that doesn't give it away).

5/10/01 Happy Birthday Danny!

5/9/01 "Schism" came in as the #1 new single added to radio across the nation this week. The new video for "Schism" will be released on May 14th.
